Beginnings: 440 Hz

As the lights dim and brighten again, a thousand conversations fade to silence. He sits with one hand on the neck of his cello and with one holding his bow on his knee. He is surrounded by the pungent smell of dry cleaning fluid. Out walks a violinist in swishing palazzo pants and with quick strides she takes her place. She draws her bow across her instrument and a pure sound pours out. Slightly discordant responses erupt as he answers. The hair on the back of his neck raises.

It will only rest when the note is perfect once more.
